Playing with the unexpected.

Cristiano Bocci, Alessandro Ciccarelli, Andrea Fabris, Giovanni Falascone, Alessandro Gambato, who met only virtually during the pandemic with the BlueRing Electronics project (also distributed by Elli in a double EP), decide to reunite for four days at Spazio Pontano 35 in Milan with the aim of exploring different sonic territories between sound synthesis, electroacoustic devices, algorithmic music and traditional instruments.

During this artistic residency, the quintet worked on different improvisational methodologies in relation to electronic/electroacoustic experimentation and recorded the concert that ended the residency.
The album proposed here marks the debut of the HUM quintet through the most fervent material for those who practice improvisation: a live performance.

The tracks performed are:

FRAME by Giovanni Sparano, a graphic score composed of 12 sections, each characterized by a unique duration, a type of sound texture, a density of sound events, a range of pitches and one of dynamics. Each performer has their own part, received in real time through a personal device connected to a remote instance of Max/Msp, and each one created following a specific algorithm generated by a random permutation of prime numbers.

IMPROVVISAZIONE, a free improvisation that clearly highlights the ability of the individual musicians to explore the sound textures and the depth of the relationship created between each other during the days of the residency.

T.A.Z by Massimiliano Viel, a graphic score inspired by the book “T.A.Z.: The Temporary Autonomous Zone” by the anarchist writer and poet Hakim Bey. The book describes the socio-political tactic of creating temporary spaces that elude formal structures of control, so the score creates a possible space for relationships between the performers involved, allowing them to explore and follow the different graphic suggestions.
