“Disgregazione” consists of 3 electroacoustic performances recorded in our home studio and then re-edited in post-production. Each performance is an improvisation that occurs in a single day. With the pauses in between, the whole period of creation from composition to mix took two years. These breaks have been fundamental for the creation process.
Both Julian and I have gone through a whole reorganization of our lives, moving to Berlin from abroad, trying to start over our professional careers as expats, and distributing our time and energy among several activities to succeed and live an affordable life. It’s been a tough process – still ongoing – during which we both activated a survival mode, struggling with practical issues, physical and emotional ones. These challenges, occurring in a time that’s challenging on a global scale – marked by climate change, wars, genocide, neocolonialism, technofeudalism, gentrification, and an overall increase in the cost of living – have contributed to our sense of despair and distrust in where humanity is heading.
Disgregazione tells a story about this time, picturing an apocalyptic scenario that is relentless yet spectacular in its development. It is the tragic outcome of an existential crisis. Despite the pessimism at its core, it leaves some traces of light that endure the darkness, showing shreds of life here and there, isolated and next to disappearing, or maybe ready to start over.
The whole album has been paired with an abstract video-art movie that reflects its vibe with colors and visual textures, turning the work into an audiovisual composition.
