For over 30 years, Sylvain Pohu has been active in the Montreal and international music scene as a composer, improviser, guitarist, teacher, producer, and concert/record organizer.
Sylvain has explored and assimilated many musical practices and genres, including electroacoustic music, jazz, rock, mixed music, and chanson. His work shows a strong attraction to distortion, saturation, chaos, and noise. He improvises solo and in ensembles, and can integrate video or robotic devices.
As a technician and producer, he develops pragmatic, effective, and creative strategies to present mixed-music works in concert. Whatever his role, he aims to bring out the poetry and beauty of the works he participates in.
On a daily basis, Sylvain plays electric guitar, builds control interfaces, develops audio-digital tools, and composes music. Improvisation remains central. He also produces the concert series live@CIRMMT.
