Nicolas Debade is a French composer, sound artist, and researcher.
After taking part in the Marseille noise scene as one half of the duo Ohmodron (2 self-released LPs + 1 tape), he devoted himself to research on experimental music while continuing to compose and perform solo live sets. He has been a member of INA GRM since 2019, working there in the fields of research, editing and pedagogy.
His works shift between complex formal structures and spontaneous improvisations, in a language located somewhere between electroacoustic music and noise, while also drawing on acoustic music, post-rock, ambient, atonality, field recording, doom, and black metal.
He has performed in various contexts including Non Jazz (Paris, 2024), Data (Marseille, 2024), INA GRM’s Akousma (Paris, 2024), Nuit d’Hiver (Marseille, 2013, 2016), Montévidéo (Marseille, 2012, 2015, 2018), Recorreguts Sonors (Barcelona, 2015), Sonic Protest (Paris, 2013), Embobineuse (Marseille, 2012, 2013, 2015, 2017). He also regularly contributes to conferences and workshops on instrumentality, stage reconfigurations, and the history of experimental and electroacoustic music (Paris, Zagreb, Toulouse, Lyon, Strasbourg, Aix-en-Provence, Rochefort, Brest…).
He holds a PhD in arts and sociology, a background in classical piano from the conservatory of Marseille, and also teaches sound design.
