Eric Maestri writes instrumental, vocal, electroacoustic and mixed works, as well as installations.

He is co-founder of /nu/thing, a collective whose members have composed collective works including “Were You There at the Beginning”, for sound and light, commissioned for the reopening of the IRCAM Espace de projection in 2022, and “I mille fuochi dell’universo”, for instruments and electronics, created for Milano Musica at Hangar Pirelli (2017). Eric is also founder of the ensemble l’Imaginaire, for which he served as artistic director between 2009 and 2017.

His music has been performed at Manifeste, Paris (2019-2022), Radio France (2013-2021), Tokyo Opera (2016), IRCAM, Fondation ProQuartet (2016), Gaudeamus Music Week, Muziekgebouw aan ‘ t IJ, Amsterdam (2015, 2008), Biennale di Venezia (2013, 2011), Milano Musica (2012-2017), Fondation Royaumont-Voix Nouvelles (2012), Unione Musicale (2012), Festival Agora, Ircam – Centre Pompidou (2010-11), Fondazione Spinola-Banna (2011) and Konzerthaus Berlin (2013, 2010). His works have been broadcast on Radio Rai, Radio France and NPO (Netherlands).

Eric Maestri was nominated for the Gaudeamus Prize 2008 (Amsterdam) and for the Prix Prince Pierre de Monaco 2024 (with /nu/thing). During his training, he has been selected by the IRCAM reading panel (2009-10), the Académie Acanthes (2007-08), the Darmstadt summer courses (2010) and the Fondation Royaumont-Voix Nouvelles (2012), and has received grants from the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the De Sono Foundation, Sacem and the Darmstädter Ferienkursen.

His latest creation, “Sound” (2023), is a one-hour narrative form combining radio art and hybrid performance, designed for an immersive space. A monographic album with his works was published in 2017 by the Stradivarius label, performed by the ensemble L’instant Donné.
